Abstract
We have developed Kyrie, an object-oriented rule-based language and environment. Kyrie provides unique and powerful knowledge representation based on the object-oriented programming such as class, method and inheritance. It also achieves a high run-time performance and less memory consumption. Kyrie was applied to the development of a material flow control system. The system models a real manufacturing process in steel making plant and an expert system (ES) is embedded to alternate the jobs that are actually done by human operators. The effectiveness of the system was evaluated through off-line tests that were based on the real plant data, and Kyrie was greatly constituted to increase the efficiency and reliability in the development stage of the system.<>
