  • Abstract
Future workstations will be required to exhibit some of the characteristics of an `intelligent assistant´. This will necessitate functionality that is able to `observe´ the work of the user and, by `recognising´ patterns of style and work, automatically to configure the interface, tools and applications to suit the user´s behaviour and to offer options that anticipate the user´s needs. The overall target implied by this goal was named the `adaptive enabling environment´ (AEE)
