Abstract :
Presents a set of knowledge-based algorithms suitable for on-line inspection, with particular reference to lamp inspection problems for the lighting industry. The system was developed to identify not only uncut wires, but also many other faults, such as missing solders on connector pads, insufficient soldering, and solder splashes on the backing disc. The paper describes the problem and identifies the types of faults to be detected by a machine vision system; and presents the methods proposed to solve this specific industrial inspection problem. A model system on which the software algorithms are tested and the performances are evaluated is also discussed
