Abstract
The coherence properties of the transient excitation of a focus wave mode dynamic aperture is studied. The source investigated is the dynamic analogue of a Schell-model Gaussian beam. It is shown that the focus wave mode aperture corresponds to the case of a fully coherent source. The spatial and temporal coherence properties of the excitation field reflect the dynamic character of the generating aperture. It is demonstrated that using a partially coherent dynamic aperture we can improve the propagation characteristics of the generated pulses
