Abstract :
Satellites are a key element of the global communications network and will play an important role in the future Internet scenario; they represent an essential element of broadband and broadcast infrastructures and provide innovative mobile services worldwide to a broad community. In addition to commercial applications, the unique coverage and flexibility advantages of satellite systems position them as key players in the frame of risk and crisis management applications for institutional, government, security and defence applications, as well as business continuity.
