The Center which was established during 1988 on the Campus of Salford University consists essentially of a consortium of committed industrial organisations who responded to a Department of Trade and Industry initiative related to the creation of a research centre which would coordinate and integrate the core science and technology required to support United Kingdom developments in advanced robotic systems. The author reviews the technology demonstrators, the technical programmes and the future developments of the centre
