Abstract :
A method is described which improves the efficiency of the dielectric-cone feed used in reflector antennas. The traditional "dielguide" feed uses a solid dielectric cone to support the subreflector in a quasi-Cassegrain antenna configuration. The dielectric cone eliminates the need for additional subreflector supports, thus reducing the aperture blockage. In addition, the dielectric cone operates to confine the feed energy and reduce spillover losses. A modification of the dielguide design is described which utilizes an anisotropic dielectric cone to improve the performance.
