Considers how solution of the standard H∞ optimal control problem may be reduced to a line search where at each stage two polynomial J-spectral factorizations need be performed. The theory is related to but distinct from the J-spectral factorisation approach to H∞ optimization developed by Green (1989). The author recapitulates the algorithm
