Abstract :
Due to the complexity of the FDDI MAC protocol, several approximate models verified by computer simulations have been developed. This paper reviews and provides a comparison of the various approximate models for the performance evaluation of the medium access control (MAC) protocol of the fiber distributed data interface (FDDI). The network parameters used for performance comparison are the mean delay (response) time and throughput. The results obtained are particularly useful to network designers and analysts
