Abstract :
The paper presents the normalised radar cross sections σ0 of different forests (coniferous, mixed and deciduous) in the Moscow region. The measurements were carried out by SIR C SAR for different combinations of receiving/transmitting polarisations (HH, VV and HV) in different frequency bands (L and C) at the number of observation angles (210 and 630). The model of the forest having layers consisting of linear scatterers with different characteristics was proposed. The possibility of forest type classification using L-band polarimetric data was discussed
