Abstract :
This paper describes the design and implementation of a portable, calculator size, speech recognition system for use by the speech and hearing impaired individuals. The processor used for voice recognition is the OKIMSM5679 voice recognition processor. This chip performs five major functions including sound recording, sound playback, speaker dependent and speaker independent recognition and speech synthesis. Also, the chip provides an on-chip memory controller, flash memory interface, OKI speech synthesizer interface, and PWM sound output. All these facilities are integrated on one CMOS chip. This chip is ideal for battery based portable devices. The analog input is connected to the microphone or the phone line interface
