Abstract
The specification problem is re-examined for a realistic fixed plant with 1-zero and 4-poles. A new concept is introduced, which is the required horizontal symmetrical (α, 1/α) band of minus one slop (BMOS) around magnitude equals unity on a straight-line Bode plot. With these results, series compensation becomes a very simple graphical problem of moving straight lines around, where the various trade-offs are obvious
