Abstract :
The authors briefly describe the aims of the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) of the International Organisation of Standardisation (ISO), which is one of the groups responsible for developing standards for video coding. CCITT SGXV, which is responsible for video telecommunication standards, is holding joint meeting with MPEG. The authors also outline work taking place in Europe aiming to influence the standards and to improve the speed of their exploitation when they are finalised
