Abstract :
Pulsative corona discharges from free spherical shaped conducting particles are investigated experimentally using SF6 and its mixtures with nitrogen, N2, perfluorocarbon, C8F 16O, triethylamine, (C2H5)3N, and freon, C2Cl 3F3 gases. Corona inception, particle lift-off and breakdown voltages as well as charge-voltage (q-v) characteristics were determined in these mixtures. The results show that corona characteristics are affected by particle diameter and gas mixtures. Generally, a small percentage of these additive gases results in reduced corona charge levels. The particle movement is also observed and reported in this paper
