Abstract

The author discusses the status of the international standardization process in the telecommunications network management (TMN) area, focusing on key results, open issues and evolution prospects within CCITT WP IV/3 (Management Networks and Interfaces) and ETSI NA4.3 (Operation and Maintenance Principles, including TMN). There are four sections: TMN architecture, covering both the functional and physical aspects; TMN functional model, defining management services and related components; TMN information model, providing both generic and specific models; and TMN communication model, providing the necessary protocol stacks
