Abstract :
The paper reviews the status of semiconductor disk lasers (SDL) at visible and ultraviolet wavelengths. This includes the direct generation of visible light from AlInGaP/GaAs SDL\´s under solid-state or GaN diode laser pumping; intracavity second harmonic generation (SHG) of these systems for ultraviolet generation around 340 nm; intracavity SHG of InGaAs/GaAs and GalnNAs/GaAs systems for blue, green, yellow and red; intracavity sum frequency mixing in either "all SDL" or "hybrid SDL/solid-state" laser systems; and fourth harmonic generation (to -244 nm) by a combination of intracavity and resonant external cavity doubling.
