  • Abstract
It has been demonstrated that investment in equipment to monitor the state of health of the machinery can reduce down time, improve efficiency and enhance safety, thus producing great economic benefits. The author concentrates on a fundamental preliminary step, namely the acquisition of accurate and reliable measurements from the plant. The system described consists of a set of vibration measuring instruments coupled to a computer for the processing and display of the data. The system has been in use in UK power stations for a number of years and has achieved excellent results
