Abstract
The National Languages for Export Campaign was set up in 1994 with the aim of enhancing and promoting the use of languages and greater knowledge of foreign cultures by export companies. The initiatives have been unprecedented and extensive, ranging from a general awareness-raising to more tangible support measures. This paper looks at the rationale behind DTI´s support measures and reviews the empirical evidence of language demand in UK industry
