Abstract :
Several authors have used the Chernoff bound as a means of identifying the impulse response of the optimal pre-detection filter for use in optical communications. This paper is concerned with the realisation of a filter that will give this optimal impulse response. The realisation algorithm is described and two illustrative examples are considered
