Abstract :
A schema that describe some aspects of the evolution of complex process control from the operators´ perspective is given. Descriptions of the stages of evolution are provided along with a characterization of the way that constraints on system designers are relaxed with each shift to a new stage. The schema is used to advance an explanation for the apparent resistance of anesthesia practitioners to adopt advanced technology
