Abstract :
The general orbit of electrons with a large initial transverse component of velocity is investigated numerically. Then the general orbit is used to investigate the instability of the FEL-cyclotron hybrid. The dispersion relation shows that it exists when electrons have a substantial initial transverse component of velocity.
