Abstract :
Ultrawideband (UWB) shows great promise for higher-speed and secure radio transmissions, particularly for short and medium range wireless networking. However, the power spectrum density mask limitation set by the Federal Communications Commission imposes a limitation on the range for achieving high data rates. The article investigates the possibility of increasing the range of UWB transmissions using RAKE receivers (instead of a matched filter correlator receiver). A trade-off study between receiver complexity and required throughput performance at a specified coverage range is presented, taking account of multipath fading effects.
