Abstract :
Promoting a modal shift from automobiles to public transportation is an effective strategy in solving transportation problems. We developed a Traffic Flow Simulator to study the effects of introducing public transportation methods. This simulator not only simulates automobiles and public transportation systems running in parallel, but also calculates associated energy consumption and levels of CO2 emissions. The simulator can also calculate journey times for passengers or drivers after the introduction of social policies, for example, park-and-ride or transit malls. We calculated the effect of introducing a guideway system. As a result, we propose a public transportation system that can approximately halve travel time by introducing the guideway system.
