Abstract :
Tapping small amounts of power from HVDC transmission lines for rural electrification, has been the desire of network planners, designers and researchers for many years. This work investigates a parallel-cascaded converter topology for tapping small amounts of power from HVDC transmission lines. Further the effect of the parallel tapping station on the main HVDC transmission link during start-up of the tapping station is displayed.
