Abstract
The paper presents the results of case studies of industrial software projects in which explicit use was made of prototyping. The major concern was to analyze the experience gained in the projects with the use of prototyping, and in particular to juxtapose these findings and the claims made for prototyping. On the basis of this analysis, the authors set out the benefits, but also the limitations of prototyping
