Abstract :
A new approach to rejecting measurable disturbances in multistage continuous manufacturing processes is presented. This approach, called fuzzy linguistic model-based compensation, is empirically shown to be effective, in comparison with ordinary feedback, in predicting the influence of the disturbance and countering its effect. It is shown how this strategy can improve the behavior of the system in the presence of significant time delay which is common in continuous manufacturing processes. How this approach can be applied to structurally similar situations and possibly extended into analytic form is considered
