Complex modes in dielectric loaded waveguides

Analytical and numerical investigations of the properties of complex waves on uniform dielectric loaded waveguide are discussed. Existence and approximate initial locations of complex roots of the characteristic equation are predicted from the behavior of the characteristic function for real values of its argument. Numerical results are presented for typical parameters which display real, imaginary and complex propagation constant with frequency.
