Abstract :
This work presents detailed simulation results and measurements to demonstrate the factors that influence the reactance versus trigger angle characteristics of a low-voltage laboratory-scale TCSC. The paper then uses detailed simulations to predict the impact of changing the laboratory TCSC´s inductor parameters on its practical operating characteristics. The results show that not only does a low value of inductance place a practical restriction on the laboratory TCSC´s operating range, but that so too can the presence of parasitic resistance in the TCSC´s inductor.
