Abstract
This paper describes the implementation of the JPEG2000 compression algorithm in a high performance processing system, which consists of memory boards and processing elements connected by high speed serial links. The target rate of the system is several Gbps of lossless image compression. This system represents an approach for compression of spacecraft sensor data which is collected at extremely high rates. A description of the architecture is given, as well as the performance of the compression algorithm in terms of the data rate and image quality. Finally, a description of the radiation mitigation approaches for the system is given
