Abstract :
A compound waveguide consisting of a metal waveguide loaded with coupled dielectric lines is used to feed a planar slot array machined in the surface of the waveguide. Due to the sides of the guide being spaced closer than one half free space wavelength, the fields are below cutoff in the regions inside the guide that are filled with air and well bound to the dielectric elsewhere. The structure is well suited to manufacture at millimeter-wave frequencies and totally compatible with Nonradiative Dielectric Waveguide.
