Abstract :
This paper presents PWM strategy of matrix converters. The PWM patterns for reducing the number of commutations to suppress the switching loss and output voltage harmonics have been proposed. The number of commutations during a control period in the control scheme can be reduced to three times from four or six times in the conventional control scheme. However, the several PWM patterns exist. The selection algorithm is not decided to reduce the output voltage harmonics. Therefore, for the real-time evaluation of the PWM patterns, the instantaneous effective value theory is derived. The proposed theory can evaluate the error between the reference and PWM waveform. The effectiveness of the proposed selection algorithm for the PWM pattern using the instantaneous effective value has been verified by experiments.
