Abstract
The scattered field finite element time domain (FETD) formulation employing a modal non-reflecting boundary condition (MNRBC) is used to model plane wave scattering from cylinders of arbitrary cross-section. The paper considers three modifications that can be made to the formulation. The first modification allows modelling of plane wave scattering from dielectric cylinders, the second modification allows the memory requirements to be reduced and the third considers two approaches for approximating the kernel function that appears in the FETD-MNRBC boundary integral. Each modification is accompanied by numerical results.
