Abstract :
The IEC revised its standard IEC 60.1, High Voltage Testing Techniques, and published it in 1989. One of the innovations is the use of the new approach of atmospheric correction factors described by A. Pigini and K. Feser. ANSI has also revived its standard ANSI C 29.1 Test Methods for Electrical Power Insulators, and continued to use the atmospheric correction factors described in the same standard from 1982. In the present work, the authors summarize a comparison of the results of dielectric tests (lightning impulse, switching impulse, and power frequency tests) performed on 2-m post insulators, corrected to standardized atmospheric conditions according to the IEC standard with the same results corrected according to the ANSI standard. The large range of humidities has made it possible to make a good comparison between the two standards, principally at high values of absolute humidities (15 g/m3). The test results indicate that the use of ANSI correction factors showed a better performance than the use of IEC ones
