Title :
Electrical insulation systems for superconducting power equipment
Author_Institution :

Abstract :
The development of reliable insulation systems for superconducting power equipment is discussed and illustrated by several examples, including AC cables and magnets. It is pointed out that helium as a gaseous or liquid insulator and solids are well behaved dielectrics. Appropriate technologies are required, e.g. the expulsion of erratic particles or rough surfaces, guaranteed cooling, and thermomechanical matching. Future research needs in this area are discussed
