Abstract
This paper studies the effects of various ground conditions on whole body specific absorption rate (SAR) calculations. As part of ongoing research assessing human exposure in the near-field of BBC World Service HF transmitter sites, the work in this paper considers how different modelling implementations of ground conditions alter the calculated whole body SAR for a human standing within a vertically or horizontally polarised 6 MHz electric field. The models of a heterogeneous human phantom developed for this paper are compared to, and extend, results previously published by the UK Healthy Protection Agency (HPA).
