Abstract
The advent of ISDN as a digital telecommunication service brings many opportunities for new applications. Joining local networks over ISDN is one of the possible applications. To extend this concept, ISDN can be used to connect mobile platforms. This arrangement enables sites to be set up and made available for access over a wide geographical area. Such systems are referred to as remote file servers. Several protocol options can be built into these servers to allow communication at various levels. For example, FTP. The improvement from the basic file transfer between pre-arranged sites to global information acquisition is an advance towards the future of public data networks. The authors propose a design for an ISDN file server, discusses its protocol possibilities and estimate its efficiency adapted to different situations
