Abstract :
The authors describe the steps required for CIM (computer-integrated-manufacturing) implementation that meet the enterprise objectives. The commitments, organization and process being used to simplify the business processes in support of a CIM environment and the migration of the information systems architecture are also given. At IBM in Endicott, NY, detailed plans have been developed to assure integration of the factory using CIM products. Throughout the process of implementing CIM the following requirements are maintained: the migration must not disrupt business, tactical solutions must converge over time with the strategic products, and CIM solutions must coexist with current systems and processes
