Abstract :
Electricity is distributed in Finland by some 120 utilities. Each utility decides and calculates its electricity prices independently. However, the Association of Finnish Electric Utilities recommends that each utility observe the same theory, marginal cost pricing, in calculating its tariffs. Here, the author describes how, in order to help utilities to use this method in their tariff planning, the Association has developed a special PC-program (TARIFFI) for electricity tariff planning. The program is sold by the Association of Finnish Electric Utilities and is now in use in 30 utilities. Besides calculating tariffs of the electric utilities, the program is used in compiling the national electricity price statistics. The statistics are made and analyzed at the Association of Finnish Electric Utilities with a corresponding program. Utilities which have the TARIFFI program can get the answers to the statistics questionnaire straight from the TARIFFI program. After analysing the statistics, the Association sends the results back to the utilities for use in, for example, their tariff calculations
