Abstract
Remote communication with meters would offer a number of benefits to both the electric utility companies and their customers, if the equipment required could be produced at an acceptable cost. The authors discuss a system for acquiring information from remote meters and transferring the data to utilities via a very high frequency (VHF) radio link. The authors discuss possibilities for such a system, DTI requirements and frequency consideration, propagation characteristics, and system equipment
