Remote meter reading by radio-a European perspective

Two radio AMR (automated meter reading) systems are presented, both with a one-way scheme to minimize meter add-on cost. The systems are the Tedra and Tangent schemes. The authors describe system architectures, metering units, data collection, radio systems, and field trials. The increasing commitment to automatic meter reading systems employing low power radio has seen new blocks of radio spectrum being secured for this purpose particularly in the UK and Italy
