Abstract
Describes the development of an HF loop antenna which can be used to provide two way communications between mobile sites with a range up to 300 km. Traditionally mobile communications at HF are established either using groundwave, launched by 3 m vertical whips or using skywave (NVIS) launched by horizontal dipoles. NVIS propagation is very dependent on the ionisphere which changes in density throughout the time of decade, year and day. This limits the frequency band of interest to between 1.5 MHz and 12 MHz
