Abstract :
The frequency characteristic of the pearl chains formed by dielectrophoresis under a nonuniform alternating electric field, which was produced with a probe-probe electrode system, was studied for cellular electrofusion. In the frequency range of 100 kHz to 30 MHz, a relationship between the pearl-chain formation and the electric field frequency was observed. It is shown that there is a center frequency at which cells turn to the field direction fast and the pearl chains are rapidly formed. A preliminary exploration of the mechanism has been made by establishing a new polarized model. The center frequency can be represented with a series RC equivalent circuit
