Abstract :
One of the major concerns at world wide level today is the reduction of power consumption in any form possible. Many types of fuels, engines and technology had been developed taking in consideration as main parameter: efficiency. In this idea an outstanding high efficiency motor is the brushless one. Unfortunately the down sides of this motor are not few: difficult to start when it needs to drive a large torque, efficiency is strongly related with resistance of power transistors in switch ON (conduction) state, and for high power plant located in small volume enclosure the thermal management becomes an important issue. As consequences to reduce as much as possible the issues mentioned it is necessary to use a proper controller between DC power source and motor. The controller is the one that is converting the DC power into the three phase signal needed by the motor. The main parameters that were investigated for improvement where: low resistance in conduction state-to ensure high efficiency of the motor, wide range of rotation speed to control with maximum torque -to ensure rigorous starting of the engine. The result is equipment that uses latest technology in power conversion and packaging, able to satisfy the highest demands.
