Abstract
In today´s digital network, software-based telephony services are undertaken by stored-program control logic and data embedded in digital switching systems. The cost/performance trends in processing technology encourage greater distribution of intelligence, thus creating opportunities for increased flexibility and modularity of service provision. This has led to development of the intelligent network (IN) architecture. The key technical objectives of IN in addressing the needs of the customer are: rapid and flexible introduction of new services; increased control of service definitions, costs, timescales; stable and standardized interfaces
