Abstract :
In this work we show the role of photonic crystals in a type I degenerate optical parametric oscillator (PCOPO) inducing a periodic modulation of the refractive index in the transverse plane. The intracavity photonic crystal is modelled by spatial dependent detunings that can have different amplitudes for pump and signal fields. Due to these spatial modulations, in general, there are not homogeneous stationary solutions. Still, analytical results can be obtained restricting the stability analysis to the most intense spatial harmonics. The stability analysis in this case is the same of a singly resonant degenerate parametric oscillator and was analytically obtained. Inhibition was observed in the case of a cubic instead of a quadratic non-linearity, suggesting that this is a general effect of photonic crystals.
