Abstract :
The concept of using microwave radio for the delivery of entertainment TV direct to the home has been in existence for many years. AT BTRL it was recognised early on that in order for radio systems to offer the full choice of available programming, a capacity of around 20 channels would be needed. It became evident that it would be possible to operate such multichannel systems only in the, as yet relatively under-utilised, millimetre-wave region. The key to the success of this concept would be the production of low cost receivers. It was from this background that work started on proving the viability of the so called M3VDS (millimetre-wave multichannel Multipoint Video Distribution Service) concept
