Abstract :
Microwave video distribution systems have been proposed at a number of different frequencies. Of these, the most commonly discussed are 2 GHz, 12 GHz and 40 GHz. Each option has it advantages and disadvantages. Generally, the lower frequencies have larger potential service areas, whilst the higher frequencies particularly 40 GHz have more channel capacity. The viability of the various proposals is best compared on the basis of cost per channel per consumer. Ultimately, other factors such as lead time to introduction, compatibility with cable-TV modulation and encoding techniques may be reduced to a cost comparison. However, the paper concentrates on the 40 GHz microwave components and the transmitters and receivers made from them
