Abstract :
A system design model for a semiconductor laser amplifier has been produced which can be used with harmonic balance techniques to simulate the non-linear behaviour of the laser amplifier. The model can be developed to include noise models which will allow optimisation of systems with respect to the noise levels and harmonic and intermodulation distortion levels. The model can be used with commercially available microwave design tools. It also has application in the work with optical network analysis techniques
