Abstract
Summary form only given. Describes the factors to be taken into consideration when making stereo television programmes and the requirements for cost effective production. Various microphone arrangements and sound balancing techniques are described and some analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of each given. The application of these techniques to real programmes is discussed and illustrated with examples from a variety of recent BBC Television programmes. Reference is made to methods of deriving monophonic signals from stereo sources and the implications of various microphone techniques on monophonic compatibility are discussed. The history of television audio post production work and the development of techniques to cope with the ever increasing complexity of production methods are reviewed
