Abstract
The BBC is planning to provide a television stereo sound service to 70% of the population by September 1991. Crystal Palace, which serves some 12% of the population has been radiating test transmissions for two years now, providing much valuable experience on the practical implementation of a stereo service. By the September 1991 date it is intended that ten high power main stations will have been re-engineered and be capable of carrying a stereo service. These ten stations together with their attendant relays will serve an estimated 74% of the population
